FAQ about Voice Training and singing lessons
How often should I practice?

In a perfect world an hour a day. If you´ve got time and you´re having fun, then longer. Most important is a stress-free, quiet environment in which to practice. You should be giving it your full attention. A half hour of concentrated vocalising is better than 2 hours with telephones ringing, screaming kids or any other distraction. Turn off your mobile, take the phone off the hook and forget about the neighbours; the more you put in the more you´ll get out.

You´ll definitely notice that when you practice properly the time simply flies by.

Muscles have a memory and through regular repitition you can teach them to do what you want them to do when you sing. Except for your vocal cords, all your other muscles should be doing precisely: nothing. Leave the singing to the singing muscles! All the others should be competely relaxed while practicing. Remember you´re vocalising not singing; what you´re learning to do now can be put into practice later, on stage.

For experienced singers one of the first tasks is to isolate mistakes that have developed over the years, correct them and allow your vocal cords to get back to doing their job. That requires time and patience.

How long and how often will I need lessons?

That depends on you. Experienced singers may detect a positive development after just a few lessons, a beginner maybe a bit longer.

I recommend once or twice a week in the beginning, to make sure the exercises are "sitting“ right.

The training needed to get these tiny muscles (your vocal cords) into top form requires repetition, repetition, repetition......

After a period of three to six months you should notice a positive change and then a decision can be made as to how it goes from there. And later on a lesson every now and then just to check that everything´s allright can´t do any harm either. It´s also important to vocalise alone, to make mistakes and to keep things moving at your rhythm and pace. A singing teacher can show you how to do exercises but that´s no substitute for experiencing the feelings yourself. It´s your voice and you can judge what´s happening better than anyone.

How much does Voice Training cost?

A 45 minute lesson costs €30 for individual training or for groups of 2-4 singers €25 per person. The first lesson is a double lesson so that we can get to know each other and I can explain Voice Training in detail.
